Protectsys®

ProtectSys® is prevention, protection and peace of mind.

Working platform, storage area, access walkway—the uses of a flat roof surface often lead to damage in the waterproofing membrane, damage virtually impossible to detect by eyesight alone. Undetected, such damage can have devastating consequences for a building’s insulation and thermal values. In the past, locating the source of moisture penetration entailed completely uncovering the roof, an expensive and time-consuming process. ProtectSys® combined with EFVM® has changed all that.

Based on ILD®’s proprietary EFVM® technology, ProtectSys® is a pre-installed system for locating moisture penetrations. With ProtectSys®, waterproofing system leaks on flat roofs, swimming ponds, and a range of other membranes can be quickly and easily located before the damage is done. ProtectSys® can also be used as part of a regular roof asset management program.

How Does Protectsys® Work?

The roofing contractor installs the highly conductive ProtectSys® measurement grid under the waterproofing material and connects it through a contact plate via a prefabricated cable to the contact box. The Vector-9 EFVM® Conductor Wire, placed on top of the roof membrane, delivers direct current tension to the surface.

With ProtectSys®, the water-tightness of a new or existing roof construction can easily be checked, and membrane defects or damage identified at every stage. In the event of any contact with moisture—even the smallest capillary action–the system closes the electrical circuit. Moisture penetration can then be quickly located and cost-effectively repaired.
